not to be the guy who's that freakin' guy but you rarely see gators more than 3-4 feet.. I think it's unfair to tell anyone to prepare for the maximum wild size.. datnoids max out at (supposedly) 24".. how many of those do you see? how many 6' rtc's do you see? how many 7' nile perch do you see? etc.. I'd say that this guy will lose his first gator gar in less than a year, the experience will make him wiser and he'll know what to do next time.. we learn by doing.. and if, just if the gar would grotesquely enough outgrow his pond (which would take a good 10 years), just release the damn thing without saying anything or if your'e a coldhearted basterd just fry the thing. and for the depth, if your gar is doing a headstand there is a pretty darn good chance it won't survive it.
well.. I'm in no way claiming to be any sort of expert, in fact my gars just stubbornly insists on dying on me so my 0.2 should count for.. well, 0.2 but generally speaking captive fish do, more often than not die of unatural causes. how many of you have had a fish die of old age? guessing gars have an estimated life span of 50 years plus I think this guy could probably solve the problem before the gar needs a walking stick and glasses..
