Alligator gar

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The next time some one has a question they probably wont post it and might make the wrong decision all because they get burned down as soon as they post something:( I think stating that they should do more research and asking if they could properly house the fish is allright but I think that people
just need to relax a bit :) im not trying to get people mad just think we should think about how we treat others were not all pros.:grinno:

maybe next time the question is asked, the person will get correct info from a valid source...instead of an opinion. i wouldnt say by keeping an alligator gar for 10 months, he exactly knows the true needs of such a fish. trust me...there are people on here that HAVE dealt with adult alligator gar and can provide very accurate and correct information.

I don't think it's a matter of people being affraid to ask questions, it's when they ask a question, are given an answer by people who actually know what the hell they are talking about and then post that you're going to do the exact opposite (I want an rtc in a 55, or how can I stop my gator gar from growing?)...that's when it turns into a flame thread

And thats when you should just walk away from the thread and ignore it.-Anne

they grow fast when they are still young and slow down after 9 months or a year i can say this in observation of my cousins past gator gar and i think the 3 feet in a year is a little bit of exaggeration.

i think xander is right about the step by step thing, who in the bloody hell would put a 6" gar in a 1000g? huh! youll need a grow out tank. you arent ready for the expenses then dont get the fish. it may worth only 40 bucks but keeping it is a pain staking and expensive process.
i never said you should keep a gator at 6" in a 1000g pond, or should start with a 1000g pond
i am very much ready for any fish i buy to take care of it and give it good living conditions
may be you should read the posts before you start trouble

its really hard get help here without being flamed. a simple debate would always get out of control till it becomes a flame thread and be closed by the moderators.

as far as these threads go no one was flamed by any one
other than a few rude posts by yourself

sorry for the derail

IMO, the bottom line is that you need to make sure its a gator then go from there

just as an idea, a 10x4x3 tank is about 900 gallons and that would not be enough for a 5' gator gar, IMO. that might not even be enough for a 4' RTC or TSN

if/when i personally decide to keep a gator gar i will be planning something along the lines of (16' x 8' x 3') as its permanant enclosure. this is in no way a tank recommendation...

you disagreed with xanders step by step opinion, what idea do you think it would give the person who started the thread?

me being rude? can you pls. site the statement that i gave where in i was being rude? the "bloody hell" was an expression i wasnt making trouble i was just doing a simple debate with you that a step by step process was a better idea if the person was about to get the gar. dont get offended man its just like this you make a point and prove/support it if i think your wrong ill contest you and prove it or vise versa so that the reader could get the best info as possible. if some of my statement was some what rude for you then i offer you my apolgies.:chillpill:
