This is freekin simple man. Keep the gar in what you got. When he gets too big put him in my pond.. Jes*sChri$t I don't see what all the yelling is about :)

:(

If you can't house a gator gar properly then dont get one, simple as that. People giving so called advice as to put it in a 120 or whatever size tank you have then throw it in a pond like its that easy...Well all I am saying is that gators grow incredibly fast, they have crazy appitites and will need huge tanks, however I am saying with what I know and have personally see. Is that I have never seen a tank raised gator gar get passed 40-45". Still that is huge and I know for a fact most people will not be able to house these animals properly, and before anyone stops me or flames me about giving my honest opinion and say I am not an expert or I have no experiance etc.. Im just saying with my 25" gator and the experiance I have had with it. I guess what I am really trying to say is dont get a gator unless you have had experiance with other smaller/ easier gars to take care of first ie. florida or spotted or tropical. Because the whole put it in a tank whatever size you have then throw it in a pond and it will be fine is rediculous..

well i have to agree with many guys here regarding the gator gars. ive got two in my pond hitting almost 4 foot. these guys are no joke. ive got 3 footer cubans too. but asking my opinion i would think that alligator gars are kinda off limits when it comes to tanks because firstly, they do get huge and they eat alot. u wouldnt want a skinny lookng alligator gar they would look horrible, which means u have to feed them and when u do,they grow fast. secondly they are horrible towards tankmates. ive lost quite a few catfishes and flagtails due to them and i know it's not my 5 footer arapaimas because their body had scrathes and i always see the gator trying to snap at anything swimming past it,even my arapaimas

Hello... Everyone... coming from me for once.... i no don't fall over...

But we haven't even seen a pic to ID yet and as we all know and Kara already pointed out it may well not be a gator.... may even be a spotted!! so dude... go get that pic if u can asap let us have a look and well let u know. In the mean time, if it is gator do u seriously have ambitions of keeping a 4' predatory fish with a huge apatite and a bad personality? if that is for you, do some more research on gator gar but get them pics and we can give u a id and tell u a bit more...

Enclosure wise im planing on going from current 3' wide tank to 8' round pond, then in time a 12' round.
