Personally I think that you cant get more of a monster than betta gram for gram, this little fish is one of the only fish that will kill another male of the same specieces just because they dont like eachother, some fish kill all the other fish that you have in your tank but bettas will kill eachother. My Bettas terrorize all the small fish that i have put in with them too and I think that a monster is a monster to who ever so sees it to be a monster, My betta might not be as big as your arrowana but he is just as vicious.

I'm a fan of too many fish to mention and I don't base what I buy on whether or not someone else might think in terms of my "manliness" or whatever. Caring would only put me in a state of being as inadequate as those who bash others. I love bettas and for years have always had one or two of em' around. Currently keep a sweet looking gold HM male with red finnage on my desk in a 5.5g tank. I visit the angel/discus section of this site often and I'm glad it's here, i.e. love the monsters, love the minis. love the diversity.
If Betta's weren't really monsters they wouldn't have got #2 on Animal Planet's search for "The Most Extreme Fighters" they're like.. mini-monsters, God created them small so they won't take over the world 
I really like bettas, I like all the fin varities and colors , I think people hate on them so much because they are used to them being so common and dying in bowls all over the world, they were the fish that got me into fishkeeping when I was a little kid and they are beautiful little mini-monsters!

Bettas are great color attitude aggression beauty.and theyre tough enough to survive in an unfiltered unheated cup.lets see your rays or aros do that
