Alternatives to Pothos

Sorry I’m a big beginner in plants. I barley know the common names lol. Does it grow the same as potho just drop a stem in water or does it need to lay horizontally in water?

Yeah you can just buy a pot at the store, and you'll find that they just pot a bunch of individual cuttings together. What I do is use a 1 inch hole saw to drill holes all along the plastic strip on the aqueon lids. Then just separate your cuttings and stick them in there. It's really that simple. I do use a supplemental light to help them grow on a couple of my tanks. Just a cheap aquaneat led from Amazon inside of a wall shelf that I built to disguise it.

Back in the 1st post, I had bent over some umbrella papyrus tops.
2 weeks later, here are the roots they have sent out since just resting on the tank water surface.

Always love your heavy use of terrestrial and aquatic plants. Do the larg leafy plants like monstera absorb as much nitrogen as say pothos?

I have never done research myself separating plant species to see if one was more efficient than another, but it would seem logical the more volume of plant, the more sustinence it needs.
There has been some research suggesting Salvinia floating plant (sometimes called giant duckweed) uses nutrients and even pollutants faster than most, (maybe because it reproduces so fast).
When I first set up my tank here, I collected Salvinia from Lake Gatun, and put it in sumps for that purpose.

After looking at the other days photos of new Papyrus pups, the way the tank was filled, the didn't show clarity, they looked kind of vague to me.
So during todays water change, when the water level was down about 25%-30%, and before filling, took a shot to make it easier to discern the way new Papyrus grow up from bent stem tops. The old "umbrella leaves brown out, as new pup plants appear.

Pothos?

They take awhile for all the terrestrial roots to convert into aquatic roots. The plant won't look or do great during that transition. I've had pothos growing out of a large marina brand breeder box off the back of my oscar tank for years. The kind of breeder box that uses bubbles and an air pump to pump water in/out of. I used to have the pothos winding around the room, but that kind of makes a mess of painted drywall walls, plus I've found sometimes the vines weep water, so you have to be mindful of that.

Not pothos I meant the umbrella palm. Pothos work for me

The 180 (under the patio) half the tank gets about 2 hours indirect eastern sun in the morning, and a little less western sun the other half of the tank in the afternoon. Below some afternoon sun.

Although the seasons and cloud cover can alter it quite a bit.
As of this season, the newly set up 125 gets about 6 hours direct sun morning into the early afternoon.
When first set up (no plants) algae was growing on the sand, as of late (with moving over some Vallisneria, and Papyrus on the east end) algae is still growing on the glass, but the substrate is starting to clear.

Had to move my only other male Andinoacara to the 125, it was being harassed relentlessly in te 180, by the other fry guarding pair.
By the way neither tank gets any artificial light, by 6 pm, sitting outside is impossible due to the onslaught of biting insects, so there is really no point.
