Aluminum Cans as Decoration??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Should be fine; aluminum is pretty much inert once it oxidizes, and I don't believe the paint on the can will be an issue. Some small fish in the wild will use aluminum cans as hiding and even nesting sites; in fact, dumping out cans from a creek bed is considered a good collecting strategy for certain catfish!

Pretty sure it will be fine ,fish in lakes and oceans live with stuff in the water ..Atleast fish tank water is filtered, carbon would probably take out any chemicals released..

Thank you very much for the good constructive input.

These are the same things I thought, but I figured I'd ask up here, cause if anyone knows, it'd be you folks. thank you.

if you put the cans in already can i see a pic with you tank set up? and can you post your super natural tank?

My local zoo has a 300 gal set up to mimic the ohio river and has lots of 2 liters and cans and other trash in it but they stock it with catfish and other native fish.

haha it's not "super natural" i was being a smartass, it's just decorated with driftwood and some live plants, it's nothing special. I just wanted to try a new type of decor and since i'm a graduate student i'm poor. Then it hit me, combine my two favorite things, beer drinking and fishkeeping.

The tank's not up yet, but i'll get the pictures up as soon as possible, I have a few other sweet decorations going in there too, a little off the wall.

any pics?
i got a tank set up with some coke bottles and a captain morgans private stock bottle in it. looks good
