Alright, I am going to be raising, what I feel, are the 4 kings of the New World cichlids and will be tossing them together in a 1000 gallon pond setup.

What are they? Well, here's the list:

1 male jaguar cichlid

1 male red terror

1 male dovii

1 male umbee

I will be growing them out, one by one, starting with the jag. (That may be subject to change if things come up).

Is it asking too much for these 4 fish to be able to coexist in the 1000 gallon setup?

Sounds like a big Cage Match:popcorn::popcorn::popcorn:

I don't think it would work, I have heard of dovii taking over an entire 600 gallon tank. Umbie are open water predators, and will claim more than this amount. I think that ten feet diameter is about the territory that any of these fish would hold in the wild.

Wow, sounds like a really interesting pond... wouldn't want to dangle my toes in there!

Interesting . . . I have also heard of a pair of dovii and a pair of umbee breeding together in a 600 gallon tank. Not to mention all of those other setups with almost the same mix.

Any thoughts as to what can hang with these guys? I was thinking about sticking some viejas in with them, but idk. I'll see when the time comes.:nilly: For now, I gotta focus on getting this little punk off of live food.:irked:

Sounds like ample room to me. Equipt with plenty cover along with various targets i see no reason why it wouldn't work. Keep in mind, Aquamojo has all these species and more in his 8' x 8' x 4' pond. I see no reason why couldn't add other species to the mix, in fact overstocking may work to your advantage.
