Aside from it being a highly venemous snake, the fact that it has some of the largest fangs in the world and is known to bite through it's own head to inject handlers should be an indicator that it's not too docile.
If something were to happen bare handling, even if you could get your hand around it's neck/head - there's still a good chance you're going to get envenomated.
That's not the case with all venemous snakes - but even if you watch the professional herpatologists with gaboon's, they refuse to actually lift them off the ground like that - let alone kneel down in such small quarters.
