Amazon Tree Boa

New pictures and a feeding video are coming soon.

I had to move him to his planted enclosure earlier than originally planned because he refused to eat in his temporary enclosure last night; I stuck him in the planted one after that, and he fed for me just a little bit ago. Also, do not be alarmed if you notice little mites crawling around in the video and/or pictures; those are rodent mites rather than snake mites. There must have been a few in stasis on the lid from when a pair of my sister's gerbils had them; I had stuck it outside for a couple of weeks, but the cold apparently didn't kill them all (neither did scalding hot water or bleach).

Here's a couple of new pictures; the feeding video is still uploading to YouTube.

I have a Dracaena on the left, a pothos in the middle, and a Philodendron on the right; the substrate is organic potting soil. As you can see, 90% of the lid is covered by aluminum foil in order to keep the humidity and heat in, but there is still a reasonable amount of air circulation.

He mainly hangs out on the Dracaena during the day and usually goes for a slither around the enclosure at night.

So cool!!

Well, I kind of freaked out a little last night after he started shedding, and I thought that it was something worse since it looked kind of weird. Turns out that he was shedding in reverse (tail to head) and had gotten some of the substrate between the shed skin and his new skin; it looked like something bad, but thankfully it turned out to be nothing to worry about. Another unusual thing is that I never saw his eyes cloud over (blue) which is another reason why I was surprised.

I'll have to take some new pictures of him today; he looks better than when I got him now.

I'm using him as practice for when I get an arboreal viper (probably an eyelash viper) since their behavior is somewhat similar to those snakes; he's only being handled by hook until then. However, he has really tamed down and no longer strikes when I go in the cage with the hook or spray down the cage.
