ammonia to high help

Okay, the reason I asked is that you'll want to test Nitrite and Nitrate, as well, in order to figure out how far you are through the cycling process.

I'd allow the tank to cycle before getting any more fish. Also, I'm not sure what store is going to replace your fish that you put into an uncycled tank (and all the ones I've ever been to require a water sample)! Just to let you know.

well my regular well water is on the money ph is just a little low so its something in the tank plus my excuse is that my other fish are a live a kicking . i hate tat the died but i figured my test had to be off because there are like twenty other ciclids in the tank an a ralphel catfish all doing fine . thats what i dont under stand. an unless i can get this amonnia down im not going to try to put any more in there. im just going to be happy the others are doing as well as they are. i can use air filter material correct for filter media right. an if so do i use the blue like material or the tick more wool like stuff .

I've never used air filter media, so I don't know about that. The "something in the tank" is fish crap -- it's making ammonia! You've just got to get the cycle back on track, or you'll start losing the others, as well. Also, if you've got that many fish in this tank, it could very well be overstocked/underfiltered, which isn't going to help matters.

i have a little bit bigger 55 i would like to set up for the mean time but i would have to start at scratch all over. im going to see about getting the 55 over to the house tomorrow. an cleaning it an get it set up it was used for a lizard i know to clean it with vinegar . then i just fill it with water an start doing tests right. i guess i will see about getting a bottle of the jump start stuff an see if i can get the 55 set an then tranfer the fish over after every thing is stable

Right -- in order to the cycle to start, you have to have an ammonia source. That's what makes the bacteria grow -- it has food to eat. So just setting it up won't do anything; you've got to have an ammonia source. The link I gave you explains the fishless cycle. The Dr. Tim's is a product which places all of the beneficial bacteria in your system, allowing you to add fish the next day with no Ammonia or Nitrite spikes. In that case, you wouldn't have to do anything more than add the fish.

ok i read te second article i need to go an read the first article. i had some of the charcoal filters where you put them togther. i took the filter material an shoved probly 6 or 7 filters in the filter to have some media for the bb. this is the wool like material i speak of

You mean the filter bags that they sell, I think -- yes, that is good media that you could use.

As for ammonia, I would thoroughly clean the tank prior to using it. You have many other options than lizard pee LOL.
