Oregon, it's part of 'Murica!
Seriously thinking of getting some Lyonsi from Gage in hopes of getting a breeding pair. My question is:

1. how is their temperament compared to other CA Cichlids
2. what size/age will they start to breed
3. how picky are they when it comes to picking a mate
4. any other info pertaining to this subject that might help

I've found they are typical Amph 's
Not as fast growing as the Midas complex species. But, still somewhat fast.
The bigger they get the more colorful.
Mine are about 5" & just starting to show signs of pairing.

Mine are not picky eaters at all& are fed a big variety of pellets.

Hope that helps, I've only had mine for about 5months or so.

Well, I'm certainly not the most experienced with Lyonsi. I've only had my pair for a month or so. The male is nearly 7" and the female is about 6". They did breed a few weeks after being introduced into my tank but they tried to keep each other away from the eggs shortly after and allowed the other tankmates to eat the eggs. Other members have told me this happens sometimes with young Lyonsi pairs before they eventually get things right. My pair are very outgoing and not aggressive. They don't bother their smaller tankmates, which they could easily do if they chose to do so. The only aggression that I witness is when the male decides to chase the female a bit. This happened a lot more often before they bred. But there are no torn or nipped fins on either one. Lyonsi are very beautiful and active cichlids. I am very glad that I purchased them. And it looks like my pair will be spawning again soon. I hope that my limited experience has helped you.

I ordered a trio of 4 in one male to 3 females it was $30 a pop but was more then worth it and I had them flown in too so I get them the same day. Gage only ships orders on tuesday's And thursday's. Gage is really easy to work with and he will answer every question you have.
