Astyana mexicanus is common throughout Central America, but mostly Mexico and southern Texas. If it isn't a terta then why do they call it a Mexican tetra?
The blind cave tetra related. I think it is a sub-specieces. Try doing a little research, and you will know what I'm talking about.

why do they call a payara a "tetra"?

why do they call exodon paradoxus, a "tetra"?

why do they call a bala shark or rtbs a "shark"?

common names dont mean anything.
