I agree, and from a logical standpoint, anyone trying to use a loaded AK47 for home defense in lieu of a handgun is making a tactical error in judgment IMHO.

So we agree on the "value" of an AK47, as a personal protection weapon. As far as "rights" go, it just falls down to what level of death you can inflict with the particular weapon you choose. Obviously, you don't think an automatic AK47 is within your "rights" and the founding fathers never intended for our "rights" to include automatic weapons. Infact, they didn't even have semi-automatic weapons when they wrote the 2nd amendment, they had muskets. Your single shot .22 rifle was easier to reload and fire than a musket.

You're absolutely right. And in the unlikely home invasion scenario, you would be just as safe with a loaded semi-automatic .22 rifle, a loaded 9mm handgun with a full clip, or a Semi automatic AK47. The only difference is how cool you feel between unlikely home invasions. Actually, I'd feel safer with a 9mm rather than an AK, but that's just me.

Also, I really appreciate you keeping a cool head and debating this with me. I think it's awesome that two people with opposite views can have constructive conversations like this and be open minded. Nothing drives me more crazy than when people (liberal or conservative) refuse to even consider what is important to the other person, much less try and understand what motivates their ideas. I completely understand where your coming from and I think you have a good idea of how I reason things.

But at the end of the day I think we could both have a good time at an outdoor range! You'd probably school me in rifle shooting though.

such as tactical shotguns. mine holds 8 factory. law say 6. takes 30 seconds take the duck plug out.

If you feel safer with a Mossberg Mariner with 8 shells in it, feel free to have it. When was the last time you needed to fire 8 shells at a duck or a convenience store clerk? I hope never.

Indeed times have definitely changed! When I shop for firearms though, I never even consider how capable the device is in dealing death. I'm more interested in fun to shoot, can I carry it, how expensive is ammo, price, function, etc.

Um, I'd like to add that true conservatives would never act irresponsibly with any firearm.

I love guns, I just don't see the "need" so many express. If more people would say "want", I'd back them up. I love guns. In America, no one needs a gun, You don't need it for food. It's just fun to shoot stuff. The ban is not needed, nor is the "need" to own guns to preserve "rights". I'm honest with myself. If they ban the AR15, I'd be disappointed. But I don't need it for anything, I travel every week to the worst neighborhood in what used to be known as "Murderapolis". My chance of dieing is much higher via car accident than mugging or home invasion. Especially the way I drive.
