erm ok, 1st of all, that is not a 15g tank lol it looks more like a 55g so you prob safe for a couple more month. 2nd you prob only need to do a 20-25% water change 1nce per week, the water looks sweet to me. 3rd you should prob try feeding 1nce every 2 days or very small amounts every day. for his size there seems to be alot of room for him so really why were you worrying again??

RTC'S tend to hide alot when small anyway so yeah he will come out of his shell eventually, just bare with him and be consistant in what your doing and he should be fine dude ;) nice lil monster ;) Just remember to be prepared in a couple of months by getting a much larger tank for him :D
Good reply. Instead of biting the guy's head off telling him how stupid he is etc... Actually offering kind words as well as advice.

yeah i've been getting alot of that(good advice) but lately alot of flaming for being naive, inexperienced, negligent etc.. thats why i ask for help from experts so maybe im not stupid..LOL..well i specifically asked what 15 gal. tank looks like and they pointed that to me so i thought well maybe it will last for a couple of mos. so i took it..and also i have meal worms here so how much of those do I feed him..BTW you guys have been a big help!!even the flamers who were still polite only meant well for the fish so THANKS GUYS!!!

Try him 1 meal worm at a time, if you see him eating it then put another in ;) what he doesnt eat should be removed after 20mins or so. Dont leave food in there too long or you will end up with big aonia spikes which makes all your hard work worthless and you basiclly have to start over to try and get the water params back to norm.

oh ok man but does he eat floating pellets?..the one for aro or does he only eat the sinking type?and also should i feed him in the when its still daytime or only at night because he doesn't come out at all during the day..and should i feed him only if he is circling the tank looking for food or is it ok to put food even while he is hiding as long as i remove it after 20 mins??

I wouldnt of thought he would go for the aro pellets :( i know they are cheaper but cats tend to like stuff that are closest to there mouth  if you go for the sinking type, again try 1 at a time, make sure you dont leave any in the tank as these pellets leave a nasty mess ;). Either feed him as soon as you turn his lights out or 1st thing in the morning, rtc's tend to hunt at night and breakfast time, you can train him to eat anytime but that takes time and patience :D. If he is out looking for food then feed him, remember little as poss at a time, watch him eat it then try more, what ever he doesnt eat then remove , also dont forget your 25% water changes each week. If you follow all the advice on this thread/site then you should have a huge monster in a pond by a year or 2 ;) remember not to panic, if you think something is wrong then ask here on MFK. We are all here to help and try to ignore the haters as they just wind you up to the point of not wanting to come back

haha..i was only thinking about using aro pellets for the mean time till i get sinking ones..he already ate the last guppy in there last night..i haven't seen him out hunting for food for a long time..i usually go to bed past midnight but still i observed him just lurking in his jar.. does this mean he isn't hungry??:confused:..i will try to feed him now..i will put a mealworm in and if he doesn't go for it for 20 min like you said i will just feed the dead worm to the aro..he eats everything!!LOL!anyway thanks for the help man surely i will keep you posted on his progress and any problems we will encounter..:):):)

Whoa. Somebody needs help in the eyeball department. That might be a twenty gallon at best. To find out, measure it and enter the dimensions into any 'tank volume calculator'. There is one on this site and plenty more floating around on google. You'll need to know exactly how many gallons that holds if you need to add medication or salt, etc.

And I realize that most of the people offering proper advice have wisely abandoned this thread, but I guess I'll take one last stab at it. Get an indoor pond, a 300g tank, or give that fish to someone who can properly house its insane metabolism ASAP. It will die in your care and nobody wants that, for you or for the fish. You don't believe me, do you? Why don't you try a quick google or youtube search for "Redtailed catfish R.I.P." You'll discover a multitude of people just like you who wanted to do the right thing but could not. This is not a matter of intention, meaning or emotion. It is simply a matter of a fish that grows like bamboo. Come on, man. I've returned fish that I found out got too big. The sooner you do it, the better. Not like the LFS can do much better than you, but maybe a customer with a few hundred free gallons will stop in and buy him, you know? Man, I hate being negative because fishkeeping should be relaxing, fun and so forth, but there is some responsibility involved too.

dude, that looks like a 2x18"x18" to me, ok so im roughly 20g off  it still big enough to house that rtc for a couple of months untill he gets a bigger tank!!!! Ive housed 2x rtcxtsn at that size in the same tank for 2 month and then put them into larger tanks when they are big enough to fight back :D

This guy seems to want right and doing right, if he cant get a bigger home for him then yeah get rid, even a 5x2x2=149g (us) puts him on the right track.

I started with my 1st rtc in an 4x1.5x1.5, he lasted 3 month in that tank before he ended up in an 120g.

Now i have 4xrtc, 2xrtcxtsn and a marble cat all in a 260g. They all live fine together and there is plenty of room for them all too. :headbang2 :headbang2 :headbang2

Yeah a pond is in progress for them and yeah it costs money but it is certainly not impossible.

doing well so far, but the RTC will grow larger than you expect, like every one else has said.

Feed meaty foods and pellets and an occasional treat (scallops)
