anacondas at pet supermarket

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
the anacondas your seeing is not the same that you think,i have seen bigger adult BOAS..they r the smaller of anacondas thats pet supermarket sells

Which are they then you mean the yellows? If i was to keep a big snake it would be the greens the yellows are nasty little buggers.

I would imagine it would be easy enough to tell a 15 yr old probably wouldnt have the experience needed to keep such an animal. It is an animal that should be sold by the knowledgeable/experienced, to the knowledgeable/experienced.

if is Boas the biggest gets about 3 meters and are a bit delicate but not realy a danger snake , they are more like ball Pythons, corn snakes etc

they would most likely be greens..they don't get as big ..we have had many in the past

That is really expensive. I can get one for $30. Second the largest recorded anacondas supposivly 37 ft but was never verified. The longest one documented was in the mid 20s. Anacondas are the largest snake weight wise but the reticulated python gets alot longer but is alot leaner because it is a tree snake. Anacondas live most of their life in the water that is why they can support such great mass.

just went to another lfs, they had a yellow one! 199 for it!
if the fwc says anything about my tilapia im telling them
ok i will go get an anaconda and feed my fish to it. :screwy:
stupid,just plain stupid.lol :D
ya pythons get big,did ya see the python vs gator?
if a python will do that, whats an anaconda going to eat? :screwy:

yea i saw that. also saw some other large python regurg a hippo. something similar... retics are probably just as big and thats a python, and there are other big pythons. Caiman are a natural part of a anacondas diet i think.

:WTF: :swear: :wall: why the hell are chain petstores allowed to carry these animals. 99.9% of the people buying them are NOT qualified to keep them. IMO, there are 7 herps that people should be required to have a permit to own: boa constrictors, iguanas, burmese pythons, reticulated pythons, andacondas, all monitors(except perhaps ackies) and all tegus. i've heard way too many horror stories about people buying these animals to have any faith in prospective keepers that don't have lots of experience. i've been keeping mainly native herps for over 12yrs now and still don't have enough experience to try one of these(except perhaps for an iggy) but that's mainly because i've never worked with a snake larger than 6'(relocated a really pissed 5'6" golpher snake once)

Why shouldnt people be allowed to keep them again?

I never indicated they should be made illegal. I am suggesting that if one did believe it is unethical, irresponsible to possess these snakes, a simple complaint to the pet shop would yield results.
As a side note, if retics, Burmese, Rocks AND Anaconda's were banned tomorrow, I wouldn't lose any sleep.

I didn't necessarily aim my comments as you, they were just general as the thread seemed to start a bit anti-anaconda especially with the start of "if anything should be banned in the US it's these".

I know if the "big 4" were to be banded over here there'd be a lot of upset people, and i'm sure it would be the same over there. I dunno if i'd ever keep them, but i have no quarrels with other people enjoying them, i can at least enjoy seeing them without keeping them :) Fatalities are always to the keepers or the keepers family, which is a risk i guess you take on when you keep them, same as keeping hots, which eventually i wouldn't mind keeping a few selected species.
