While 30 ft monsters are very rare (in fact, its been decades since one has been recorded), people don't realize exactly how large a 20 ft python/boa really is, or even one that's 15 ft. I dunno about anyone else, but a 15 ft snake is big enough for me.
Florida is proposing restrictions on keeping large constrictors that exceed 12 ft, specifically the "Big 5:" green 'condas, burms, retics, african rocks, and scrubs. They're even wanting to regulate Nile monitors because that species has already established a breeding population in south Florida. I personally agree with this action, and hope that it spreads to every state. I see it as a considerably justifiable attempt to better regulate ownership of these large predators (because that's what they are) while still allowing responsible folks to keep them.
