*sigh* I'm assuming you didn't read the wiki? Let me help you out. Let's take this formula:

P = pgh

where,

  • P is the hydrostatic pressure (Pa);
  • ρ is the liquid density (kg/m3);
  • g is gravitational acceleration (m/s2);
  • h is the height of liquid above (m).
an equation shoudnt have variables that are the same. P = pgh how can p equal itself times g times h. p=anything besides p *g*h would make more sense.

That is a capital P and a lower case p. I agree that seems strange but I guess they figure that's enough of a difference to use it. Also, yes basslover I'm done banging my head against the wall. My apologies for derailing the thread. Time to get back on track.

Since you dropped the size down to 300 gallons you can actually make the tank using nothing but 3/4" plywood if you want.

To address one last part where Spiff was partially correct; Acrylic is a malleable product. It can be bent and molded. Glass is not, not without heat and a melting reaction. Force on plastic will eventually over time cause the plastic to mold to the shape the force is putting on it. This is the reason acrylic tanks require much thicker walls btw as well as the reason that bullet proof glass isn't used at all because it's very soft. Wood does the same thing and helps me to bring this back onto the original subject. The reason framing is done on edge vs on the flat is because of the warping characteristics of the wood. The edge side is significantly stronger and more resistant to this.

exactly correct about the wood. carpenters turn joists on their sides with the "crown" (side of the board that curves and peaks in the middle) facing up. this helps make the most of the wood, providing optimal support. The structure ages better this way as sag is greatly reduced.

do all aros jump out of their tanks if not covered?

I'm not sure but everything I've ever read about them seems to say you want a good cover because they're known for being jumpers.

So if a guy got a free piece of bullet proof glass form a bank it would not work as a front view window of a DIY tank is what you are saying.

I wouldn't use it. It's very soft and requires much thicker application. It's soft properties are what help stop the bullets.. I suppose it could be used but shrug..
