Its all good I see their good intentions I just took it the wrong way and perhaps I could have explained myself a little further in the first place I now plan to have a professional carpenter come by the house and check out the tank before I fill it up. The outter skin is more of a cosmetic thing and good idea on painted it with some mildew resistant paint I a also going to put fiberglass insulation ijn between braces under the outter skin to help insulate the tank might save a little money if the heaters aren't running as much and incase of a power outtage while I'm not home.

ha ha, I think it's great, I could see what you were doing right off the bat, 3/4 plywood box, 1x4 bulk heads, plus a 1/2 in outer skin over the bulkheads. People that's going to give him a 2" thick layered wall. It'll be strong enough. Give us some more pics Andrew. I like your originality. I think everyone was getting confused by the order your building it. If you had of started with a 3/4" plywood box there'd have been oohs and ahs.

Exactly I was afraid to say bulkhead and have everyone tnk I was talkimg about holes for the drains lol but on that not will 2 1". Drains be enough and how many gph should I shoot for I plan to only have a aro, motor and maybe a bichir if I can find a del or weeksii I will setlle for an ornate if I have too

I know I've asked this so please don't get mad it just hasent gotten answered. I'm going to use a 45g rubbermaid ill section off I am going to use some large fiter pads then fikter floss then a decent amount of lava rock rubble for bio will 500 to 700gph be enough for a tank this size my stock list as of now one bichir(ornate or delhezi) a motoro a silver aro and maybe a oscar or pbass

for a 300 gallon tank, that sound like very low gph to me. even 700gph means you only circulate the tank a little more than twice an hour. i've never had a tank this size so i can't say from first hand experience, but it just seems like you would want more

Andrew Check out cvermeulen's 600 G build, you will see how he is bumping up the flow rate on his tank. Personally I'd want a minimum of 3 turn overs an hour but there are plenty of people whom will claim far more as well as saying that you don't need as much. With a Ray in the tank your going to want a good fitration system which you seem to be building just add in the eductors and you'll be in great shape

I thought so too but I was talking to a friend of mine about his 220 and he was telling me with a homemade wet/dry you don't need as many gph and he has more stock then what I want by far and has a single 500gph pump and a couple penguin 350s so I wanted to come in and ask

There are 2 lines of thought with filtration... 1 being that the faster you pump water through your filter the more chance the bacteria has a chance to feed on the pollutants, the number 2 thought is that the slower you pump water though means more contact time with the bacterial which means that it's cleaner as it leaves the filter and doesn't need to be passed again so fast... so with both of those in mind the majority of people stick with the average of 3 times per hour which seems to give the best of both worlds
