Annoyed with CL

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yeah its getting way to crazy. today i saw a 100 for $800 wtf

but today i also saw a 125 acrylic the guy wanted to trade it for a 50-90 gallon drilled. would of called him but my 60 is just to nicely set up haha

Most CL postings aren't worth looking at.

However I bought a 55 gal in perfect condition, not a single scratch for $35 bucks without a stand (didn't need one) thru craigslist, in Erie PA.

I also found a 200 gal marine setup with everything including stand, protein skimmers, canister filters, media, decorations, live rock, and multiple expensive marine fish all included for $1000 - The guy wouldn't sell to me because I would have to relocate the marine fish to my LFS (as it woulda been setup for freshwater).

So I ended up buyin a 150 gal Marineland aquarium / stand from Petsmart (came with light, undergravel filter, and very nice glass canopies) - also bought two 530 gph UV canister filters online - with everything: air pump / hoses, digital aquatop heater, (black) substrate, all brand spanking new - And I spent less than $1000

Shop around dude.

Marine setups are always more expensive, but you could have gotten a 150 for less than $500, at least in miami :P

craiglist sucks period. People think stuff is worth gold. And wheater you are buying or selling you have to deal with the run a round proccess from people. It is just not worth playing email tag. If you cant put you number on there or in a email dont bother to try to sell stuff is my opinion. hate craigslist lattely.

I like CL! When buying or selling something USED you should expect to pay less than half of the retail price! I just got a 135 w/stand for $300 on CL and then found another one the next day for the same price I wanted in my area.

I have bought a lot of tanks from craigslist. They usually need to be cleaned, the filter might need mtnc but the trick is patience and go for deals. A lot of these people don't plan on getting the money they post for, they expect someone to ask for a deal, It's like pawn stars!

I know what you mean about how crazy it is though- I have sent emails to people just to tell them "Good Luck with selling at that price!!!!"
I check every day and Really good deals go fast! Good luck!

someone hit the nail on the head. alot of you that are frustrated with craigslist probably only look during the week that you need something and then are baffled by the odd prices that go back a few months. you gotta keep in mind that good deals don't last long so you literally need to look everyday. you could even take in a tank you don't need because it's such a sweet deal and resell it or trade it to get the tank you need

At first you had people selling setups because they where moving. now you have people treating this stuff like its a meal ticket and asking stupid prices for it. Considering how over saturated the used aquarium market is now I'd point out that standard used tank prices are probably 20 percent higher than they should be with demand dwindling and the silicone drying up waiting to be moved and setup.
