annoying customer

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
fishy fishy fishy fish, You act like I was yelling in her face. I wasn't yelling at her. I wasn't trying to be rude and I was yelling at her. At the store I work at, we won't sell an animal or fish to someone who doesn't have a proper tank/habitate for them. I'm sure I could have explained it differently up but still. I wasn't nessacraily complaining about my job. I was just telling about a tough customer. I do enjoy my job but aren't I entitled to have a hard day once in a while? No one's job is perfect all the time.

Gill, Wow so he recommended to keep 10 one inch goldfish in a 10 gallon tank? That's ridiculous.

Aquariumguy2300, what magazine was that article in? lol. I can see guppies or bettas in a 10 gallon. But oscars or pacu's? I try to talk people out of buying pacus if I can. Yeah they'll be ok in your 50 gallon for now. But you'll end up needing to get a 200 gallon tank down the road.

Green_fox, I know how that feels.

Pagan, Don't you just love the customers like that? I know I do.

Yeah I know. But they are mistakes that the poor fish have to suffer through.
Not mistakes. The people on top(in the store,ownership-wise) want you to sell the customers anything they want, for a profit over humaneness. So it is on purpose,no mistake, they don't care about the livestock they buy en-mass,but we as the front like do care.Thats the world man.

Yea, right on. Vent. No harsh times. you should have seen me after returning some sort of killer tetra group..that was sold as a community schooling fish... after they killed a guppy a loach and a catfish (i couldn't believe it was them). Even after I seperrated them from the tank they killed one of ther own! I lucked out because I had bought the catfish with them and got my money back. then I tried to buy a matching pair of irr. sharks and she wouldn't sell them to me. It was like insult to injury. I loved that loach.

I started in this hobby again after a few years away, with a 2.5 gallon tank from Kmart...You wouldn't believe the fish I was able to keep alive in there.:nilly:. As my fish fever grew along with my fish and budgets so did my tanks.

Unfortunately this hobby is full of a lot of misleading information and products. Along with the perception of money being the key indicator as to a pets value. You talk with most people that frequent a national chain LFS, fish are considered flushable pets. Your only option is to offer advice, try to educate, not sell. If they refuse to listen to your advice and they still insist on four fish for that tank , as someone stated earlier make them sign a waiver no refunds on their entire purchase and then ring them up.

i work in a pet store and we always mae sure the fish are going to the best home pssible, just as we do with the small and fuzzy. I actually feel i am more strict on the fish customers cause if they don't have a suitable size tank or maintenance routine going on I would rather them go away with no fish than come back with a dead one. I find that 95% of those i give good advice to and am honest with come back for more.

Chances are your 'killer' tetras were a school of Exodon Paradoxus.

Also, if you can find a breeding pair of iridescent sharks anywhere (Apart from fish farms), then I take my hat off to you.

I've worked in 2 different pet stores totaling 4 years and I feel your pain!! I was constantly told, not asked, "I want that big yellow fish for this bowl." They were talking about a 4-6 in yellow tang and a "goldfish bowl" ....I'm surprised I didn't get fired.

I don't even bother posting dumb customer stories anymore, there are too many. If i could get a recording of my work shift i would post it though...pure gold.

groovitudedude, I can't believe someone told you that your pleco would eat your cichlids lol.

mlowe22, lol I've had someone ask if nemo could live in a fish bowl or if he would get along with their tetras or platies. So I make sure to ask people if they have a salt water tank before getting any saltwater fish for people. Except for the regular customers that come in and buy salter water fish of course :) .

kzrz3000, I agree there are a lot of dumb customer stories lol.
