Another aquabid scam

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I don't know for sure but I do know he is a member and has posted on this forum. There are a lot of guys that know him and I'm sure he has been made aware of this posting so he should be aware that someone has pointed out that the ray he has listed is mis-identified. Perhaps that person is wrong on their ID of the ray and he can prove them incorrect. Also he has imported and listed hundreds of rays so I'm sure he has some clout with the exporters and if there are not many guys importing, the exporters should be doing all they can to hang onto a valuable client. I'm not a ray expert myself but I have seen an adult xingu ray in person and seen the pics of it when it was a pup and the ray listed does not look the same. Perhaps it's a bad angle or shading and he can post better pics of the ray. They are rare so if fact his is a xingu, he would be able to sell it in no time for big $$.

I can find previous post of him on this site waiting for me or gumby to post pics of ours again in hopes that one of his orbs was a snow leopard. If that were a real snow leopard I would have been all over it long ago. So would many others. One row of spines on the tail and the disc shape is a distinguishing feature of a totally different species. I did email shaw. And made him well aware that I've seen his previous posts about him hoping on orb was a xingu than he went and listed one . After the email conversation I would never reccomend him to anybody . He's a straight up scam artist and knows it. His terrible feedback rating on aquabid and this site are very clear indicators and a clear red light not to buy from this guy. Listen to the many others that actually got scammed by him on this site.emagine how ma y others their are that do not belong to forums

seeing the other post after yours of some one in the know telling him that is shady.

now as for the rest of this post. he does import alot of rays, but he is nothing compared to asia and europe. those are the top markets and get atleast 80-90% of the rays that are exported. he doesn't even compare. i think that alone is enough for the collectors to tell him to get bent and deal with it. hell he has to import them in from asian markets a lot to most anyway.

like i have said over and over not defending him, for stated reasons, but there is the fact that he has/is being screwed over himself by the people he is importing from remains an influence. now that being said i don't think it is right for him to past it on to everyone else. he should atleast make it a wash on the rays that are not what they should be and not order any more of them.

I have never really understood the whole 'preorder' thing when dealing with livestock. We all know as well as the next guy ***** happens sometimes with shipping (losses etc). I could not imagine selling a live animal without it being in my care so I could vouch for it and put my reputation behind it.

With that being said, obviously Shawn has brought in some very nice rays in the past and has some very happy customers. I have never dealt with him personally, have considered it many times but am hesitant since I can not go pickup the fish personally. The people I know who have gotten the nicest fish from him and generally stand behind him pickup their orders at his house. Importing, I can only imagine, is a tough game. I can not think of any big importers that do not have negative / poor reviews if you search the web. Add in how touchy WC rays can be and I can easily see it being a nightmare waiting to happen.

Well I know there's plenty of people here on MFK that ARE happy Shawn's in the hobby, cause every ray I ever sold that was shipped was done so with his help, his packing, his acount, and his knowledge on how to get the big ones there alive. Please, name me ONE SINGLE vendor that steps up to the plate to ship customer's fish that weren't even bought from him. I've tried several times to get a vendor to help hobbyists ship and they simply don't want any part of it. Just another behind the scenes thing that happens and goes unnoticed. If the guy was such a money hungry scam artist I sure would have thought he'd charge me for this service, but never has.

There's NO arguement here, the guy helped the hobby in that regard, and nobody can spill any crap on that fact.

Scott your rays would have been shipped by him too if you didn't have someone willing to jockey them for you.

Yeah for sure! I agree never found a vendor that would ship a fish that they did not sell.

DB - I just did not want to risk shipping these two little girls. If it came down to it I would of made the drive....I just do not think replacing them due to their small size would be something very easy to do if there was a shipping mishap (not due to packing or the shipper but instead on the wonderful airlines).

Agreed 100%. Myself, it takes a good 12+ hour drive before I'd look at shipping as an option. I think driving is definetly the best option. Especially when talking your first born CB.

Personally I agree with this- Shawn helped me import this one just last month. I asked him what I owed him for his help-nada. He brought it in -picked it up from the airport, got it through customs and had it ready for me to pick up from his house.
