another dissapointing day at petsmart

Sorry in advance for this negative post, but this was a negative thread to begin with anyways. I am so tired of reading threads like this. Everyone knows that the standards at some lfs are lower than they should be, but going in there and being an arrogant A-hole isn't going to accomplish anything. If it bothers you that much then just don't go. If you feel a strong enough urge to do something about it then open your own store and put them out of business....don't come on a forum like this and ***** about it. Was this thread meant to be informative in some way?? How does it benefit the readers??

EDIT: I just realized I contradicted myself....in the same sense that if you don't like the store then don't go.....if I don't like the thread I just shouldn't read/post. Regardless, I still think this post makes a valid point.

The OP is just trying to vent his frustration. Going into a store and telling the employees what to do was probably not the best way to handle the situation, but then again,at least he got what was surley a very sick fish off the display floor.

^^^If thats true then IMO this should have been posted in the Lounge. Venting does not belong in General Aquaria Discussion as it has no substantial benefits to the readers.

a few points and observations to add.
1. as stated removing the one fish with ich does nothing, it's best to treat the system since everything is conected so they were right there. also (being how i work at a store) nothing is more of an annoyance than someone pointing out fish with ich, obviously i know the fish has ich but it's not like i can just cure it in seconds. yes the tank is treated don't buy the fish and move on it's that simple.

2. i love how people online get all up and mighty about how bad fish stores are. i'm not pointing fingers at anyone in particular but go to the sick threads, there's just as many sick, unhealthy, and dying fish in everyones tanks before we all point fingers at stores. i mean seriously how many of "my ____ fish just died" or "my ____ won't eat" threads are there?

3. when stores are bringing in a lot of fish weekly sometimes it's hard to keep every single fish healthy, and yes sometimes they come in sick! not much to do there besides treat them in store and not sell them til heathy.

4. as stated if you don't like what's going on and who works there either A. don't go to the store (even for water conditioner) or B. and here is a real thought get a job there yourself. nothing like fixing things yourself to prevent your own complaining.

and if anyone responds with well i have a better job, why do you think pet stores have the people they do? not many worthwhile people are willing to work minimum wage long term, if you aren't yourself why expect others to? just a thought

Not all lfs' are bad; you just hear about the ones that have things wrong when someone comes on here and whines about it.

yea so do i and many others here, but i wont be there for life. the best bet is get college age students who just need a job during that time and know a fair amount. because i don't believe even boggy will be at his store long term (a career of it)

Also, I think if I worked in an LFS and someone walked up and started telling me off, and then started listing off all of his tanks, it wouldn't exactly set the scene for intelligent and balanced conversation. There are people who know way more about fish and only have one tank, than people who have a bunch of tanks. It doesn't mean anything, except that one person has more money to spend on the hobby than another. Research is free.

C. a mongloid.

You are insinuating that people at Petsmart are Mongolian? Or using it in the sense of refering to someone who is mentally handicapped? In either case you are being both extremely ignorant AND racist. Well done.

You evidently, despite your number of aquariums, have very little experience with the retail/LFS side of the hobby. It is often impossible to keep every fish healthy, or to quarantine everything. A store with large numbers of incoming fish will be dealing with constant new, sick, stressed fish.

Ick needs to be treated by medicating the entire afflicted system. Do you not understand the lifecycle of the parasite?
