Another Massive Loss 22'' Black Aro

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
awesome Aro, sorry for your loss of such a center piece. Know that you are in good company. Most of us have taken losses, unfortunate part of the hobby.

I don't want to rehash, but this fish is famous for jumping, so you MUST have the tank top well protected. I've heard of people putting large objects atop their tanks as preventive measures. as for spending 10Gs- buy small and raise!!! save that fortune and watch a fish grow.

As for why fish jump? Sometimes the water is toxic. I'd do a massive water change

wait what?? aros jump?? you must be kidding. darn you J you should have done research BEFORE buying the fish!! and keep your water clean!! u nead wool filter and ring filter!!

dude...:screwy::screwy::screwy: i hate it when a guy just comes on and bashes someone else with no way of knowing how well he has taken care of his fish or with a disregard of the respect that should be given to fish for their unpredictable behaviour...J has had a hard time, lay off man. he'll be back but if he needs a break now, to each his own. in this case, if you dont have anything nice to say, then zip it.

btw did he jump through the glass?!

Not that I really care, but I think that getting out of the hobby because you have lost fish is childish. We all lose fish.

Do not sell your fish. You are a grown man, things happen in life. Tomorrow is another day.

Things in my life are not real rosey right now, but I am not going to sell my fish and kill myself.

In all seriousness if your are a TRUE hobbiest, bury your fish and move on. You seem to enjoy your fish, it would be a missing part of your life.

See how you feel in a few days, do not post your fish for sale.........patience and calm.

when someone loses a fish that they put a lot of work, effort and time into, it can be a really hard blow.

to the OP very sorry for your loss :( maybe you should give it a few weeks and see how you feel without having to keep fish? if you feel like its making you feel better then maybe its the right thing but if you feel like you need some fish to look after then maybe you should give it another shot. good luck!

You are re-hashing-
he knows they jump-
he knows juveniles cost less than adults
his water isnt toxic

I re-read that last post three times trying to find anything that was encouraging, enlightening, or at least comforting- I couldnt find anything worth reading even once

sorry everyone- I just saw xander already handled this- I didnt mean to re-hash

I would say telling him to wait a few days before selling his fish is enlightening, rash decisions never work out.

Reread a 4th time.............

agreed. losing fish, even big and valuable ones, is part of the hobby. it has happened to me, it has happened to many of us.

try and use it as a learning experience and try and figure out what happened, and move on with the hobby.

I haven't seen your other threads, but have you had your water quality checked? was the fish being beaten up etc?

pehaps we can help to figure out what happened so that future losses can be minimized or avoided.
