Another "NEW" Species...... Right....

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I can understand how upset anyone would be for paying anywhere from $50 and above for some mislabled fish, cats, dogs, etc. I also understand that some lfs owners only care about the bottom line which is about the profit brought in versus quality of livestock regardless of being honest or not. And then again some don't have a clue about what they are selling so they pick up the book"Cichlids for Dummies" and label the fish accordingly to what they find inside that book. :headshake:

Understood, but when you make a trip to Florida to pick up a small order (just carp 'vontehillo', dovii, fene catemaco, and 2 pairs of the "?" fish) it would seem strange that you wouldn't know what you just bought.

Plus, the fish are going for $130 per pair, AND there's a "threatended in the wild" etc. backstory behind them. Someone is clearly being deceptive.

Keep in mind, this is no normal pet store. It is a monster of a place that has no problem correcting identifying even the most rare L-numbers, cories, rift lake cichlids, marines, etc.

Another "new" member with a strangely familiar first post. Just mention DCT and new members with familiar and offensive styles pop up.

Welcome back Paul....and goodbye again!

In no way am I targeting DCT, but you seem to always turn it into that. This is about a LFS, not DC.

Please thoroughly read my posts before jumping to conclusions. I am not attempting to slander DCT. You, like so many, are reading into my comments to suit your own purposes. I only indicated the fish came from DCT to the LFS. It is the LFS who is posting the bogus name. The explanation has yet to come...

Regarding your question about how would I feel if I were in the LFS owner's shoes? BUSTED!

Now, if he wants to pass the blame off on DCT the issue takes another step in that direction, but until and unless that occurs we can only speculate.

WHAT IS NOT SPECULATION is there in no such species as Astatheros civalis or Astatheros cincaia.

......and one last point about reputations. One's reputation take a long time to develop and an even longer time to change. There is a lonnnnng thread in the buy/sell forum about a failed deal that burned a lot of forum members. That seller had a reputation too......among those that had been burned before. A little more discussion could have changed some things.

I think this quote of mine from earlier in the thread underscores my feelings. Misinterpret it if you like Paul.

Just wanted to point out that my last two posts were in reference to some unfortunate posts from a thrice banned member who has a axe to grind. Those posts were removed by a fast acting Moderator (thanks guys and girls) so now my last statements seem pretty random.

It's too bad that we can't have any sort of critical discussion without a certain element showing up. It seems the Mods are on board though, and we should be able to continue being civil.

Now after derailing my own thread!......... I called the LFS today. I spoke to two employees who only had a passing understanding of the fish in question. I was asked to call back and speak to their expert cichlid guy, but after being put on perpetual hold (10 minutes plus) three times I gave up. Those guys are super busy, and the staff members do work very hard, so I don't want to keep tying them up. I'll just stop by again sometime this week and see what I can find out.

Incidentally, I see that forum member Donald Conkel is following this thread. If that is indeed "the" Donald Conkel any feedback would be appreciated.
