Any advice on P. Polleni?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
8"-9" after 16 years? Do they not grow fast or is that about max size?

max size can be larger than that especialy in a larger tank. in my experience they can grow at a decent pace with feedings, no stress... the bleekeri is about the same and i really cant notice a huge difference except the obvious spot size. the bleekeri can grow larger though. i had a polleni in a community for about a year. most fish were bigger than my P. it did not show aggression at all but i never saw him back down to any of his tankmates. btw awsome you found a P in your lfs. thats a come up!

ATM I still haven't gotten any dithers to occupy the P but got a list of a few target fish I had in mind. Red belly pacus, silver dollars, and dwarf gouramis. Leaning towards the gouramis since it seems like the P is only attacking the Salvini (I'm gonna take a wild guess that it's because of his spots) and the neon blue dwarf gouramis are really flashy and also similar color to the salvini's spots.

get the salvini a partner. they will keep the P in check. plus id rather have a pair of salvini in my tank than pacu. for now get some pvc that the polleni cant fit in. it will give everyone cover and its inexpensive until you have time to decide a permanent sollution.

They all have cover in the caves. The polleni can't maneuver through the caves as well as the salvini so he backs off. I'd get the salvini a partner over a school of fish but no clue if it's male or female atm. Same with the polleni, pike, and pbass. They're all still quite young

yeah. still a bit young but id guess its a male from that shot. look for markings near the gill plate and a spot on the dorsal. usualy blueish black. bellys get red early too. easiest way ive found to find a female salvini at a young age. good luck. i love polleni! keep us updated!
