Not quite done yet but been working a bit on the 2nd of the $17 yews I bought last week. Been fun playing around with something new the past few days but gotta get back to some real work now tomorrow :(

Underrated plants that would make good bonsais:
American plum
Basswood
American persimmon
Hickory
Palo verde

These darn nurseries really need to stop twisting my arm and forcing me to buy stuff. Stopped into a different local nursery this afternoon and saw this solid stone 3ft 100lb statue sitting on a little clearance cart. Reg price was $119 but it had clearance tag on it that said $20! I didn't even have to think twice about handing them a $20 bill for this thing. It looks great greeting you as you walk into my bonsai garden now :)

Nice, I've always been partial to the modern naked angel statues, especially ones with well detailed wings

It's rather funny they had this today for that price because it was only about 2 weeks ago I was poking around online looking at various Saint/monk type statues to see how much they were because I had been wanting one. Everything I found was between $100-$200 range so I figured the heck with that. Couldn't get my wallet out fast enough lol.

Seeing these updates makes me want to hit up a few Home Depot and Lowes locations and see if I can find some potential gems.

I've hit both those this past week here. Lowes had a few things marked down but not a whole lot. HD had nothing marked down yet. Not sure if you have a Meijer's anywhere near you krich but if so check them out. That's where they had the nice big 5g pot Yews for only $17. They also had some nice little Mugo pines for only $6 as well.

I've never heard of that place around here but I might as well look them up and see where the nearest one is.I recall seeing you mention the name in a previous post.....all we really have is HD and Lowes anymore and like fish shops all the good nurseries are over in Jersey.

I have been moving this past month. Never realized how many trees I had until I had to load them in my SUV and take them to the new place. four loads later and only a few are left.

I would love to sit down for an afternoon and work on them but have to sort the house first.

Steve your forests are looking nice.

A friend gave me this pot made from a gourd. She hand polished and painted it.
The plant is an accidental bonsai by the neighbor's dog. It was a perfect straight standing house plant.
