Any one knows what've happened to the Petsmart Frontosa??!!

Petsmart is having Frontosa on sale for half price $12.50, and most of my local Petsmart are not even restock their empty Frontosa tank.
Any one knows what've happened? Would that means they are replacing the Frontosa with some new breeds, may be dicus, arowana (I hope) or ...? Just curious......
 
Each of the Petsmart around my area kept 2 Frontosas at a time, that should not be too much of lost/investment for a giant pet store, btw, more than half of the store having empty frontosa tank now, that means people are buying them.
What is the true hidden reason?
 
They were brought in as a special fish, they did not sell so they are discounting them. There will be no more.
 
I saw one in all the petsmarts around me since they started to carry them... of course putting them with texas cichlids was their plan at my stores... One of my stores never even got one...
 
My petsmart had like 20 and then sold them for the 12$ They now have obliincensis or some funky name like that. They look like Africans. They also have Sveni pike cichlids :) I bought all 5 my store had at 9.99....

Mine have the "Zebra Obliquidens" (A. latifasciata) too only they labeled them as Frontosa and is asking the front price for them.
Wish mine got pikes. :(
We did get peacock gudgeons though.
 
i have 4 frontosas. 3 lfs, 1 petsmart. The petsmart seems stunted and doesn't grow well, the others started off the same size and are almost double the size. I had 2 other petsmart fronts, both died. Not worth it IME
