I've lived on long island most of my life - 1 hr's drive from you, and I've caught the following species in Fresh water:

Largemouth, smallmouth, & black Bass
Bluegills
Pumpkinseeds
Other sunfish
Crappie (black, I think)
Carp
Chubs/shiners
Brook, Brown, Rainbow, & Tiger trout
Redfin pickerel
Muskies
Bullhead catfish (Yellow & brown)
Perch - white & yellow
American eels

Also, various darters ands other small fish that I've come up with in nets.

I'm just curious....Where did you catch the Black Bass & Muskies, on Long Island?, really.

Muskies - Lake Ronkonkoma. It took me years to get a hit, and then years after before I caught one. I finally got some advice from a local sharpie on where they hang out, and he ate a white perch that I livelined.

black bass - great pond out in southold, according to the DEC guy who was checking my license, he claimed my big catch (2-3 lber) was a black bass. All the "largemouth" variants look the same to me.

I grew up on LONG Island and i went fishing for snappers and clams and oysters and off the great south bay..most of the time i just enjoyed the boat ride and lounging in the sun..but theres was always fishing going on around us..

Ahh.. thats cool, well, its freezing outside so i probably wont go out fishing during this time... are there any fishes in the freezing winter offshore?

Well there is still Striper around you just can't keep them until the season reopens in May. And theres Cod, Ling, Blackfish, & Conga Eels and for those closer to shore there still few Herring around I'm sure.

But you gotta be into freezing to go out fishing around the NYC area now.:screwy:
