I have this devise left over from my old essex... i think it was devised for wheel mounting in the early 20's and 30's..i need the name of it and what exactly it is used for... one in a million anyone will know but it does not hurt to ask..... so if you know please tell me...:nilly::nilly:

mystery item 004.JPG

It's a corker. Used to open 'man-sized' bottles of wine.

Honestly, it looks like a tool used to compress suspension of some sort.

Looks like a fancy car jack to me..

Liz,

looks like an old bumper jack for changing tires on the side of the road...

:ROFL::ROFL:man size alright....haha..i think we are getting close... thank you

.. it has one claw on top and two claws on the bottom..and it does not stand up by itself..i thought it was a bumper jack too but it just would not work .. and i do not think they had jacks in those days..

It's definitely used for compression. Hooks are for hanging. It'd be flat if it were for pushing.

Jeez, looks like something you could put between two railroad cars to pull them together for hooking them up...

A guess... I suppose it would probably not be long enough unless there was something to hook it to near the hitch, but what else would you need to compress that would need that much torque. They didn't have coil springs, on cars, back then I don't think, unless they were compressing the leaf springs, but why would they need to do that?
