I've had my fair share of no-show fish. That tends to get boring for me quickly. I prefer a fish with good personality who will be active, greet me, beg for food, etc. Not to say that I haven't had some more shy fish which I enjoyed. But unless they are really special, if they want to stay out of sight 24/7, and it's not because of my setup/something I've done... they probably be moved on.

My Spotted Raphael never moved until the lights went out. Thought he was clever hiding all day, but his hide was in plain sight.... lol20170929_155030.jpg
See him hidden in the driftwood on the right. He got stuck in there, I has to break off some of the wood to set him free.

LOL y'all can't fool the MFKers...these are aquascapes! Stop photo shopping those fish in!

That happened by accident while i was trying to make my fish more comfortable... seems i should have probably kept some of those plants and not put them in, then maybe i would still see some of my fish lol....

I don't think its necessary to see all fish all the time, and actually feel it makes things more interesting to have them pop in and out of view.
Kind of like that old sexual friend that calls randomly for a ......

My megladoras irwini and oxydoras niger used to hide all the time. But since I added so many catfish species they come out during the day. They must feel comfortable with the other cats. I even get to see my niger and irwini eat which is cool.

I don’t have fish that I never see, but I have a set up that many fish are unseen most of the time, rotate out to be seen some of the time, and all show up to be seen at feeding time. The set up provides heavy planting for fish to hide, and I love it as it makes my heavy stocked tank look deceptively uncrowded..

Here are pic comparison at and off feeding time.

Love these little guys, but you'd be surprised how much they get stuck. When they do, they extend their spikes, which only wedges them in more, so, yeah
