Anyone have a problem with sharing fish tanks?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've never had anyone add anything to my tanks. Though I have added things to my gf's tank before. To be fair I did all the original stocking in that tank anyways and check with her to see if she might like any new planned additions.

Personally I find the idea of a "shared" tank interesting. Provided everyone has at least the same general concept, it could turn out pretty cool. I know I've gotten input from buddies before as far as stocking, aquascaping, etc. If everyone was free to add as they liked the setup should be interesting.

Here weve thought about a "together" tank before. But we quickly realize how bad of an idea that is. My husban and i have very different fish keeping ideas and practices.

No ones dared add anything to my tanks without asking first, especially not my G/F whos been living with me for close to 7 years now...

Even my dad, who was an avid fish keeper asks my permission before feeding my fish... Although i have on occasion caught him on the sly feeding my fish NLS pellets as if they were treats for my fahaka....

I have a couple tanks, my fiancée has a couple tanks. She doesn't mess with my Amazonian community display, or my Midas, and I don't mess with her spiny eel tank or her nano reef. It works out better if you have a fish offender to just get them their own smaller tanks and let them have at it.

When you're living with your parents, it's whatever tehy want to do. You can't really argue anything unless you're paying rent. In general, they feed and house you for free, so if they want to put some fish in a tank that's "yours" (and I say "yours" in quotation marks, because if you're living with your parents rent free, EVERYTHING is essentially actually "theirs."), you can't really do anything about it i nthe end.

If you're paying rent and buying your own food, that's a different story. Just move out if you've got issues with your parents. That's what my brother did back when we were in highschool. Problem solved.

As far as people putting "unwanted additions" in my tank, I'm the only one that has any interest in my house. My wife doesn't know of any species besides what you'd see in petco, and she thinks my stock is "awesome." Plus, she knows the majority of my fish would eat anything that was put in their tank.

Although, I did see one of my drunk friends looking super guilty by one of my tanks when we had a party. My wife was like "...what did you do?" My old GT always begs for food, and he fed him some NLS. Had a good laugh about that. Drunks can't resist a fish that begs for food like a dog.

Wow that was the most innocent drunk friend ever. Actually feeding a fish the proper food and feeling guilty haha. I've seen drunk people pour beer into a goldfish tank before. Fish lived a long healthy life, but swam upside down from that moment on. Guessing it has something to do with a bubble in its gut or something.
