Anyone have this in their sump?????

I have some sort of buildup on the base of my sump, different thin layer on the side walls and then more stuff on the surface of the water that has less movement.

If you are able to identify the issue how would I clean it or prevent it from developing further?

My water goes through a sediment filter and two carbon block filters and drips into my sump at 2GPH. No light is on over the sump unless I’m tinkering with things.

I shop vac it out whenever it builds up to a decent amount.

I agree, I use filter socks and still get plenty of mulm, I need to periodically vacuum out. There are plenty of things the size of single cells that can pass thru filter media, spread and grow.
Media itself is a great medium for stuff to grow in.

I get a lot of that in my sump over time as well and part of my maintenance routine is syphoning out as much as I can of it.

It's mulm and it develops more predominately in cooler temps around 68-72. Equal tanks with higher temps closer to 78 seem to not have as much.

I get the same, but less so since I raised the level if my filter socks. I didn't know better and assumed just detritus.

It's not too bad now but have taken a shop vac to my sump once a year with no concerns.
