yeah right!!

I have to agree with this one ^^^

All a python is a venturi (google). They will only produce a few LBS of suction no matter how much pressure you try to feed thru them.

I don't like them because of all the tap water they waste to produce that suction.

I allways just start a suck syphon and lay the hose out the door into a flower bed or lawn or floor drain in my basment. That way you have zero wasted new water and you don't have to worry about house water pressure.

with my python it is has so much suction it actually hurts if you put your hand on it when syphoning, it ripped the head clean off a goldfish one time, ground it up and dumped it in the sink when i wasnt paying attention
That would be amazing but not the case for me.

LOL!! IMO never get a python when you can get a normal siphn hose and just ad a valve and a longer hose...
This is what I have been doing for years. I was so frustrated with the suction that I just used my old method that I would like to share with everyone.

I had the same problem . My water pressure so low not even suck the poop out . So i use one of my water pump suppose for my sump but didn"t set up. Rate at 1000gph at 0 head. Man, that took me 4 mins to drain 50 gls water out of the tank:WHOA:. Just get a rubber hose from lowes or HD $1.2 per foot .
Now i just use python to fill the tank. Not to mention no waste water while you are sucking water out:)
This is the main reason I bought a python, too fill up the tank @ a proper temp. I know I could have bought attactments to my sink but I thought, "cool it also sucks poo, two birds with one stone right?".. so I took the plunge. Boy was I dissapointed in the suction.

OK, here is how I have been sucking poo. I use a powerhead to get the suction started like we all do(maxi jet 1200, weapon of choice). The exhaust end of the tube also has a short pvc connected to the tube and this helps the end of my tube stay in my filter sock. So debri and water is getting siphoned down into my mechanical area but the main tank never loses water because my return pump will just pump my water back in. With this method, you can take your time to master the siphon wand without sucking up sand:naughty:. This method really helps where the my 2260 does not suck debri:naughty: but please put an Aqua Clear extension on the tip of your siphon wand. I learned this the hardway when I lost a senagal in the kink of the tube before I stuck the AC extention tube on the end of my siphon wand when I was at work awhile back:swear::screwy:. It was horrible coming home to a missing fish find my sen's face literally tore off in the kink of the tube:(.

When I am expecting company, I do my retual siphoning then leave my siphon wand over night. Then it looks like I have been cleaning for hours and the water is Crystal Clear. I love how the tahitian black moon sand shines like black diamonds when its clean. Here are the photos.

Hybrid is correct about how the python wastes water, doing it my way does not waste H20:grinno:.

Extra long tube so I can manuver any area I want in the tank.

The AC extension tube is a must for anyone that detests the python for sucking like myself with a sandy substrate. The extention can be used to poke and stir the sand around. With practice, you will rarely suck up sand.

And the end of the siphon tube sucking all the debris down into my mechanical area of my sump in a filter sock:headbang2.
I am not sure if you guys use this technique but I just wanted to share how I suck poo.

Bomber.

I spent $35 for a 50' python off ebay. Instead of the 1st one you run across on some site, search around and find the best price.

bomber where you get those baggies for the media?

also i hope your named your dog bomber, he looks like a bomber.

Baggies can be got at pet smart for 0.99.

I have my siphon dual plumbed, one goes to a drain, for when I really need the suction, the is plumbed to the sump like mentioned above. I can vac without worrying about loosing anything.

I stopped using the pump as I have low water pressure from my well.Just hang the hose out the window or stick it in the bathtub to drain.

So after all my Geo's turned belly up from the cold water from the tap, I gave in and purchased a 50' python. Is it just me or does the siphon seem extremely weak.......... Is this normal?

I have sand as a substrate. When I put the tube down like the instructions tell me, it does start to suck but when I lift the siphon tube its very weak.

I have just read that someone unfortunatly lost baby IT datnoids due to the suction of the python and mine is no wear near as strong.

Any advice would greatly be helpful.

The Python Nub,
Bomber.

Wondering why a python would help you get the correct temp. water to the tank??? If the water is correct from the facut it does not matter how you get the water to the tank....am I missing something?

errr, as long as the water source you are using to start the siphon on the python is lower then the tank, you can turn it off once the siphon starts and not waste any more water, itll just take an extra couple minutes
