I have an eco-complete base with Caribsea sand on top in my 180 gallon. Some of the Eco-complete has made its way up to the surface through the constant sifting of my geophagus and Biotodoma sp. The small amount that has made its way up is attractive, but, I do worry the eco-complete will get stuck in the gills of my earth-eaters.I would Like to have all my substrate be eco complete. The problem is the tank is 240 gal so it would cost a lot. So I'm thinking of using mainly pool filter sand and then sprinkling some EC on top for aesthetics and also using mainly EC in areas that are planted. Just wanted to see if anyone has done this and has pictures? Not only do I want it for my plants I just think it looks a lot better than gravel.
-THANKS
I also have an eco-complete base mixed with small gravel in my discus tank. They are adults- wouldn't put this in tank with juveniles or even sub-adults. It works out fine. But, I dont have any bottom-feeders in tank ( besides a large Blue-phantom Pleco) or fish who sift or dig in substrate to be concerned with. Need to evaluate if the fish you will keep are not only bottom-feeders, but if they sift or dig in sand while eating or spawning.
