Does anyone use road salt or other options, local store owner said other salt you buy at the store works just the same but is far far cheaper, I have a large tank and every now and again it would be nice to have allot of salt on hand. Ill take a pic and get more info about it in a little what he says he uses.

I always thought that any salt containing iodine could be deadly to the fish, and isn't there stuff about road salt being harmful to the environment?

I use canning/pickling salt(100% salt). It's basically the same thing as aquarium salt but much cheaper.

Solar salt from walmart. I use that for my bass to rays.

Why use something else?? The normal large thing of aquarium medicine salt is about 9.00 and that treats about 400 gallons. My setup is over 650gallons.

Use the proper aquarium salt, why would anyone tell you to use road salt? sounds pretty risky and it may cost more, but replacing all your fish will even the cost out
