Why is everyone using salt?

And remember, Epsom salt (magnesium sulphate) is not the same as the salt people routinely add to aquariums (sodium chloride).

Unless treating disease, I don't see why people appear to be adding salt all the time...i thought the idea of adding a tonic dose of salt with all water changes wasn't done anymore unless treating ich/disease

Sorry I should've specified. I usually don't use anything but when I do(for disease or damages) I use Epsom salt at 1 tbspn per 5 gallons.
