Aquarium sizes average people think are sooooo big...

Our exposure is far greater than the average persons. We see pics and read about 400, 500, even 1000+ gallon tanks on a daily basis here on mfk.

Each one of us in our own circle of friends (excluding one another, or other local fish keeping friends) probably has the largest tank the rest of the friends have seen in a home.

I remeber the day I brought home my 180 gallon after upgrading from a 75. I thought I would never upgrade again, I never imagined how wrong I was..... my 180 might as well be a beta bowl from petsmart now compared to some of the tanks on this site. However, once I get my ideal tank (300-500 gallons) it will suffice... I think. ...

I seen my friend 315G tank one time and I was surprise how small it is since it's only 2 feet high but then that because I own 1200G tank so I use to how my 3ft high tank look.
 
It's funny, today I was looking at my 350 gallon stock tanks thinking 'these are TINY'.
 
Yeah thats very true I like to introduce my 20g long grow out tank as my huge tank, and then I just say "There is a smaller one in the other room"
they walk around the corner and see my 225 5x2x3 wide and they are amazed that its practically the size of a single bed.

I think now a days unless i see a person with a 500G+ tank, i'd just think of it as an average sized large but not huge tank..

True! Actually for me, my perception of huge would be in the 2000 gallons range. It never stops. When I get a 2000 gallon, my perception will probably change, still.
 
It all depends on the fish someone is into. Most people have no interested in a fish that grows to 36". The average person is interested in a semi aggressive community tank. So for a community tank a 6 foot tank is large. We all just love huge fish on this site.

As for me. A foot print of 10' x 3' x 3' would be the largest indoor tank I'd want. After that, I'd just go with above ground ponds with a viewing window.

When I got mine, my wife asked how big it is going to be, I pointed out the space it is going to take and she thought I'm going to get a 150 gallon since the length of the tank is roughly 1.5 length of my old 100. I did not remind her about relations between length measurement and volume.

I always think my tanks are huge when I first get em, started when I got a 55 - 90 - 125 - 180 - 220 - 300 they all seem big when I get em but once i fill them with fish I think they're too small. I think 1000gal+ are big now and thats what I want next. I find that people who see my tanks find a 90 huge and anything larger incredible. 55 dont seem to give the awe effect.
