Aquariums and your electricity bill??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I just have my one 55 and a lot of electronics and a constantly running central air. My bill $121 per month on my budget plan.

When my bills started to get high due to all my tanks I got the electric company to just take money to pay my bills by direct debit, so I can continue to live in denial. Ignorance is bliss sometimes ;)

think about this:
on my 20g an aquaclear 30 uses 14w, a 100w heater(when on), and lighting is a 65w (when on) cfl,so obviously lighting and heating make the largest impact by far. so if u dont have plants leaving the lights off can help a lot, and also using the heater only if absolutely necessary (only use for baby fish maybe)

i have a 60,55,50,20,2 10's and a 7.5 my bill is about $50-60 more cause of them

oh and i feel ur pain, electricity is not in my rent and i am constantly getting hassled about the electricity of my tanks... and i keep adding more haha

electricity is one big monopoly. so there is nothing you can do. i think that should be illegal but hey, i dont have say in **** around here

Its the only monoply that the government doesnt enforce. If I wanted to switch who my energy provider is I cant cause PG&E is the onyl company that services the area i live in. And I live in the San Francisco area so its not like its a rural unpopulated place
