I’ve had some luck with Rubbernose/Bulldog plecos eating algae. I had what was sold as a Blonde Bulldog pleco L444, and a Spotted Rubbernose L445. Both enjoyed feasting on algae growing in the tank. Especially on the rocks. They also ate everything else I normally fed like blood worms, flakes, etc.

Also, Nerite snails could be an effective alternative to the plecos if you can’t find them in your area.

I don’t think I’ve seen rubber nose plecos in my country’s LFSs before. Honestly I’m not even sure, I don’t know anything about L??? Names and plecos at all haha

I do have 2 bumblebee horn snails, but they are almost useless in a huge 55g compared to their small sizes

I know they have L numbers to make it easier to ID…at least for the pleco enthusiasts.

Unless you have snail eaters.

A group of nerites will do a better job cleaning your 55g. Two snails might be good for 5-10 gallons depending on how much algae is available.
Yeah you need a lot before snails are effective.

Are ropes snail eaters? I’d be more worried about any large barbs/sharks or loaches.
