Arapaima at LFS

Look at this pic of an Arapaima Gigas at one of my LFS.
I was shocked to see it there.
I would have picked it up but it was wayyyy to expensive and I only have a 125 gallon to house it.
Let me know what you think of arapaima being in stores.

FYI this fish was in a 30 gallon tank.

poor guy. I personally disagree with them being in the trade in general except for the rare cases of people being able to house one for life. saying that same could be said for a lot of fish.
 
they should not be sold to lfs. Only a select few can house them. A real shame for such s monster fish.
 
They one of few fish( rtc and pacu among others) that should not be sold to the general public or in any store some can walk in and buy a fish. Not a lotta people even have anything close to big enough to house this fish adequately

I completely agree.
I personally think they should be available to people, but should be strictly regulated.
For example:
A permit or you have to have a 10,000 gallon tank or something like that.

Also they can get like 9ft in the Amazon so if someone released the fish in Florida or somewhere where it can survive they could be dangerous to people. I dont know if any of you have seem River Monsters but they did an episode on the Arapaima on how it killed a man.
