This looks like a question posed on a whim. I often stop myself from asking things I already know the answers to. This would have been a good opportunity for such restraint, OP.
A few minutes ago, I was about to ask if raising the temperature in my tank would make my fish more active. But I know that it will, so why ask? I had it typed out, then read it back, answered my own question, and navigated away without posting it.

since you guys want to be so technical none of these tanks are big enough for any of these fish on this site. all of these fish come from waters much larger than any of these tanks even the biggest ones its like someone putting you in a building and locking you in. so how about we all stop kidnapping creatures from there homes to put in tanks to swim back and forth for our pleasure. if not i say keep the negativity to yourselves. its just a fish if it grows to large cook it lol.

Hi,I say yes,it depends on their size,a 75 gallon tank would be great as a grow out tank but a much larger tank will be needed to keep them permeantly!

You mean fish farms? Cause many fish here are from farms or breeders.

if not i say keep the negativity to yourselves.
I generally do but I have no compassion or civility for someone who blatantly admits he plans to use poor cramped condition to retard the animals growth.

questions already been answered. he can't keep that pima, for the reason being that his next upgrade will be in july next year and it will only be a 140G tank, too small for all we know.

How about the cramped conditions your food animals are kept it?
Free range and cage free only, even pet food.
Own a dog of any breed?
ASPCA Rescue.
That cat in your avatar neutered, spayed or declawed?
Neutered to prevent kitten from ending up in local shelters, or road kill. All are rescues, the avatar was a homeless kitten in the back yard. I don't declaw ever, furniture can be replaced.
but all animals in captivity suffer some sort of compromise to their "natural state" in order to fit into our lives.
Free food, shelter, and not being eaten (pet obviously). None of my animals show any inkling of wanting to leave, even when the front door is left open. This goes double for the stray.

How did I know that was coming lol. That's quite impressive actually, but it doesn't matter if all your animals are rescues, imposition of unnatural conditions is still there, not to mention the very animal itself is modified for convenience.

I'm not attacking you personally, just trying to point out that what is "humane" is relative...despite your charity, a hardline PETA activist would consider everything you're doing inexcusable.

everyone who keeps fish keeps the fish in an environment smaller than the one it would be found in, in the wild. you are stating that everyone who keeps fish should just stop doing so.

in this situation, the OP is trying to stunt the fish's growth. however, all of us are trying to provide the best environment possible within the confines of an aquarium or pond for our fish.

I don't neuter for my convenience though I see your point. There are some aspects of humane that can be relative.

They want me punished for the temerity of being human and it depends on how hardliner. They just released a new add campaign that mixes fairly lurid imagery with religious symbols, about adopting from shelter. Look up Joanna Krupa PETA ads. So as much as it urks me, my animal husbandry would get PETA approval at least according to their newest campaigns.

His point is not that we shouldn't, it's that we accept compromises to the animals life and habits for our own agendas (in this case because we like fish).

Stunting fish is unfortunately a part of the monster aquarium hobby, I don't see a pile of PETA-esque protesters in the Other Monsters section complaining that no one's Hydrolycus grow anywhere near natural size...

They want me punished for the temerity of being human, they use death squads and it depends on how hardliner. You might not, but everyone else does. Regardless of whether neutering is for the "animals own good" it is still removing the possibility to fulfil it's most important biological function, reproduction. I have a shelter dog and cats too (or did anyways). I personally find declawing inhumane, but neuter as a necessary practice...all about how much convenience we're willing to sacrifice...
