Hello Najib, thanks for the questions, answers below...shoot any question you have further down the road, open a thread on it when you start, will help many more people again.

Hi Luc... just few queries and i will come back for more... i have a 7400g (aprox) pond build coming up so need ur help...
- 1) Not sure u mentioned it... what kind of bog plants u used?
Don't know specific names for all of them. For sure there's Umbrella Plant, Papyrus Plant, Lotus..there's a couple of other species, but forgive me for not being very knowledgeable on it.
I choose the plants purely on size and speed of growth as I needed filtration big time and fast without breaking the bank.
So fairly common and easy to get, cheap plants.

- 2) The pump u used... submersible? and GPH?
Pump is submersed in the grey settling-tanks on both sides of the pond.
They are rated at 12,000 L/Hr each.
So in theory I turn over my pond about 1x per 2 hours, but with friction-loss and everything from the bogs, I think it will be closer to every 3 to 4 hours.
I could increase that with more pumps, but right now, water is crystal, so there's no need for it.

- 3) The bottom drain... I have ordered pond liner... so not sure about cutting the hole in it....
That's the potential heart-attack moment...lol... I had the same feeling on it.
If you go with a professional 'bottom-drain', then you'll find it's a "was that all?" when you finished it.
Goes against your feeling, but follow the instructions and it's literally a piece of cake.
You could skip the drain and have a deepest point for the pump, with the hose snaking up under some rocks and stones.
I wanted everything out of the pond itself, hence the need for the bottom-drain.

Appreciate ur answers buddy... and of course the updates from you is a treat to watch... i hope to see Mr. T in person, as most likely i may visit Thai in Jan or something... cheers :)
More than welcome, look forward to having my first 'International visitors' checking out Mr. T and his home.

Cheers,
Luc

Sorry to hijack, the bottom drain cutting is so easy, i was really worried about doing mine but in retrospect is was the easiest part of the build. Plenty of sealant, screw down and cut, it's nothing to worry about.

Ha ha, Luc beat me to it!

Well seems I need to hurry with some predatory fish.
My office ladies eating lunch saw him jump alongside the front of the pond wall.
He brushed or touched the net, so it does serve its purpose.
But I am 100% sure it's because he's irritated with the tiger barbs...

Tomorrow in the factory, guess I will be bringing in the troops, no choice.
Shopping list, one or more items will be ticked off by afternoon tomorrow....
1. Couple Meters of 10" PVC or a bunch of couplings, elbows and T's or both..
2. The 2 RTC's I have at home.
3. The Crystal Eyed Cat I have at home.
4. 3 Oscars I have at home.
5. Go shopping in the fish-shops at Talad Thai, Peacock Bass, juvenile Arapaima, Datnoids, Other predatory species that might chase the tiger barbs.

I think the Oscars will be a given, the one surviving in the pond is marvelous to see chasing all small fish.
So 4 of them could do some on new fry of Tilapia.

Well, it looks like I got it cornered.
Went shopping, got some bass and even though they are just 15cm or so, they managed to scare the tiger barbs in the shallow parts of the pond.
Dumped 100 'Pa Duc' in the pond as well, some type of catfish, not sure of the English name.
Also another 20 Koi, some already went deep side.
But overall, mr T is more relaxed and taking his time with our house keeping lady, enjoying his hotdogs and prawns.
For anyone in Thailand, you just got to come and see the feeding. It's absolutely funny and sweet to see it.

Cheers, happy man for today.

Luc

I completely missed this reply Luc... dont know how. Thank you for your reply. I have started with the project and going with bottom drains into a settling tank and building a bog to grow variegated bamboo will start a thread on it tonight hopefully.

Cheers mate :)

Hi Luc,

I have started my build bro. I have few more queries on the bog. I hope u dont mind that i edited your pic to ask something i cannot figure out. The air pipe u provided... what is that for?

Hello Najib,

You mean the 3" Pipe? Or the 3/4"?
The 3" Pipe is your bottom-drain pipe, extended to above the water-level. You could put a cap on it to close it if you want, but the main purpose is to be able to clean out any rubbish from the drain-pipe. It goes up and then into the settling-tank as you see.
If that pipe is shorter, then you'd have water gushing out. So you make it at least a couple of inches above the max water-level in the pond itself.
If you put a cap on it, don't forget to drill a small hole in it for release of trapped air. You'd slow down your water-flow if you don't.

the 3/4" Pipe is the air-line to the pond's drains. Runs parallel to the drain pipe itself and goes through the centre of the drain up and through the concrete dome that sits on top of the drain-inlet in the pond (with 1" spacing from the bottom of course). It provides air for fish, but more important, it creates an upward flow of water. That upward flowing water will create a hover/suction-effect for rubbish on the floor, pulling it toward the drain itself. It won't go up, suction of the drain will take over and get it into your settling tank.

Check my very early posts for more pictures on it.

Good luck, look forward to read your thread on this build.

Luc
