Just a quick update. Still 3 (out of 4) Tiger Barbs in there, still chasing Mr. T, but he's getting used to it.
Bought 4 Peacock Bass and they've pretty much wiped out most fry in the 1.5 weeks they're in there now.
So they are doing their job. Missing Barb is in one of the settling tanks, seems to have been scared away and gotten into the drain.
After too many prawns and hotdog, I've decided to force Mr. T. back on pellets.
He's moody, but today, with clear disapproving snaps, he started taking them again.
To my amazement though, he swam around, then came to a stop at the back and slowly released the pellets by opening his mouth a bit and looking up.
Next, all the other fish scrambling around to get them, Mr. T. catapults himself into that group to get his lunch...
I was stunned, fish are not supposed to think or behave like that.... he's capable of using a tool (pellets/bait) to get himself the food that he wants.
That's almost like a Monkey being able to use tools...
Last, there's definitely water leaking from the settling-tanks, but I'm probable leaving it there, topping up whatever leaks out for now.
Reason for that is that it 'forces' me to top up the pond with fresh water, which makes for a slow but steady water changing schedule.
That way, I'll never go wrong on the water quality. If I'm lucky, it rains and it's free, if not, I use tap water and even that doesn't cost me too much.
Might in the coming weeks repair 1 tank, leave the other as the 'water-changer'...we'll see. The drop is like 1/2 cm a day, so nothing to worry about.
Anyhow, that's all for today...
Cheers,
Luc
