I am aware how big they get and I also am aware of how big of a tank they need... you should really watch how you say things so you dont strike people the wrong way because that statement hit me the wrong way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, there is a misconception that all petco employees have to sign a no competition clause... NOT TRUE... this was started by a member here who got a job at petco... I order for personal use and sales to friends from man places but have been looking into other options anyways point of the story is that I can order them from one of MY suppliers not petcos....

Oh I see. Didn't know if it was on petco's available list or what  Thats cool though.

i think he means that the person that buys it isn't an idiot and doesn't think that it's going to stay that big.

but yeah wold should really watch your choice of words and wording when using words like idiot

The seller and deal looks great for these fish. I would bid if I had the tank space for one of these. If he does not get a fair amount for the first fish sold then he will likely raise the starting bid on the next auction.

To get back to the original question of the thread....

What state are you in? Make sure it's legal there.
240 is too small to start off in. 2000 is barely big enough for the first months.
Search the fish and see what else is posted. There is a great arapaima thread going with lots of good info. http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35218

Cliff notes of the thread: You need CITIES paper work and a 30,000 gallons AT LEAST to keep one. Food, water and electrical costs are dicussed in the arapaima thread.

I LIVE IN IOWA THEIR ARE NOW ANIMAL LAWS

You still fall under CITIES regulation (they are listed in App II), meaning you should have the paper work needed to bring them into the country. You are right, though. There are no state laws against keeping them.

The seller already has them (legally?) in the US. Do you still need paperwork to buy them. This post might be better in the arowana forum.

Yes, if they came in legally, they should be able to provide a copy of the CITIES sheet. It needs to stay with the fish. If a fish comes in legally, but the paper doesn't stay with it, the fish becomes "unprovable" - therefore assumed illegal.
