i think he'd be good up to about 2ft in the 400, so maybe around 2 years before i needed to have nice size setup for him? i wanna do a huge concrete block tank like u john but maybe on a scale of 2500 for just the 1 arapaima. or maybe 3k or 4k

If john's correct at the 2" per month then you'd have about a year. Normally with any other fish I'd say sure buy/build another tank later. But with this fish I'd at least have something in construction when buying one.

No I'm saying it's 6-8" when you get him, john says 2" a month growth rate. So you get him at 6-8" then a year later(12x2" =24") so a year later he will at very least be 2ft but at 2" a month in a year he should be 30"+.

John has said something about them not turning very well, not being as agile as an arow. I thought you could do one in a 400g til about 3-4' (thinking a 400g should be 3-4' wide) but john has said otherwise. Truth is this fish can't just be housed in a tank you can buy from a store or order. It needs a custom built tank probably built onsite.

That being said this is one of those fish that you should have something being built or something being delivered within a year if you buy one. Just my opinion though. Don't feel bad I couldn't provide a reasonable home for one right now myself but that's why I won't even consider buying one at the moment.

Doesn't look like a ripoff, his prices are more than reasonable. Where else can you buy 25 silver arows for 95.00?

oops, i never posted how big the arapaima is locally. its only 2", so it'll be almost 2ft by the end of the first year, damn. thats huge. i may not do it. my friend told me his didnt hit 3ft til its 3rd year so i was hopin i could atleast house it for 2 years without havin to worry much

dude 2000 gallons isnt gonna cut it at all! get atleast 6000 gallons and then those fish might be happy
