Are aisian aros really illegal?

its the same with michigan only fish thats really considered an aquarium fish thats illegal are snake heads and dojo or weather loach or at least thats what that thread said
 
Federally they are illegal.

this. they're on the Cites II list i think, so they're illegal country wide. you can try and get permits for them, but unless your a zoo or research facility its unlikely.

doesn't that just mean you can't import wild-caught ones? what about farm raised?

Asian aros are cites I. Cites does not differentiate between wild and farm raised

im wrong, asian arowanas are actually in appendix one. however, only s. formosus is listed, and i do believe that s. formosus was spilit up into several different species in '03.

according to cites website-

Appendix I includes species threatened with extinction. Trade in specimens of these species is permitted only in exceptional circumstances.
