Are Pellets compulsory?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
2 months of reseach and you decide to buy an aro with a 55 gallon with no plans to upgrade? If thats what 2 months of research brings up, then you definitely have been looking at the wrong things. Proper research would brought you to find that mice are NOT something that should be fed, and that superworms are too useless nutritionally to be used as staple foods. I highly question the 2 months of research you did.

I feed my aro mice once in a while, just the pinky mice with no hair. I also feed crickets, cichlid pellets, and aro sticks, frozen silver sides (small fish), frozen brine shrimp and de-shelled raw market shrimp.

Actually I have done around 2 months of research before buying my arowana.... I found that my arowana is not big enough to consume all kinds of food. For example frogs, mice. Later this weekend I'll buy tilapia, mealworms, fish and crickets. My LFS has feeder:fish, frogs, Mworms, Sworms, crickets, ghost shrimps and centipede(which are expensive,a nono). They sell two kinds of feeder fish there they are comets and baby carp i think I will get baby carps. Frogs are too big so no... FD krill is too expensive... Yesterday I asked mom and the answer was a stern NO she said it was just too expensive here... And then I asked about shrimp she thought they were the same so another no... I will persuade her again later today. So here is a list of food I am gonna get later:
-Tilapia
-Feeder baby carps
-Crickets
-Mealworms

What else should I get for an arowana of 7"?

Thanks
Don't feed your fish any live feeders, the risk of disease are high, especially if you do it for a long period of time.

pellets...never fond of them. your not going to need it. all it really does is save you money, which it good...but arowanas will favor real meat over pellets any day.

They'll be loving pellets when they're malnutritioned LOL
I tried to starve mine on to pellets. It went over a month with out eating anything, i honestly thought it was going to die!!

Okay Gshock.. I have a feeling you are starting to hate me.... Nevermind about that though....

I have no plans to upgrade a 55gallon tank is because parents won't allow that. I will sell off my arowana. And during the research I found that mice can be fed but does little good. Superworms I didn't know they were so useless nutritionally... No website listed that I think...

Thanks anyway others for replying

It's not that I hate you, it's just that too many people are doing too little research and every fish purchase is an impulse buy.

Hello there,

I read that feeding frozen stuff to baby arowanas can cause digestive problems, what about adults? Do you feed your aro brine shrimp without being thawed?

And guys, I need help persuading my mum so she would get me market prawns and tilapia. I asked her about prawns she said they were too expensive while tilapia she responded "Are you crazy? Why do you want a tilapia for your fish??" My parents does not support me keeping fish that's why they just got me a 55gal... I tried by telling here if she doesn't get prawns, I'll get worms(which she totally hates)... I thought she will get freaked about seeing worms in the house that she will buy prawns but now she just ask about the price of those mealworms.... I tried explaining that I will need to buy tons if I were to feed my aro mealworms and prawns are cheaper she still doesn't believe me so later we are going to the LFS to check the price... Tips anyone?

Thanks

Considering your aro is about two months away from needing a new tank. I think you better concentrate on persuading your mum for a tank that you can actually raise the aro in
