I run a company, sits on government boards, win awards, things that my family and friends think is what a life should be, don't be fooled. Fish keeping is the only thing that keeps me balanced, sane, (and pays for my hobby) it's like a kind of meditation for me. When I do my fish things, people around me don't understand... they think I am fooling around, wasting my time. None of my family or friends do this, so it's kinda lonely. They do the "serious", "important" stuff, which I think it's a BIG lie. I have always just visit this site and read the post, hardly post. But especially this couple of weeks, when I am at my lowest, I feel that there are people here, whom I have never met, have things more in common with me than the people in the environment I am living in. This is like a sanctuary to me.

I couldn't agree more

I love it, water changes, re-decorating my tank everything about it makes me happy. I throw alot of money twards it because its my love, I'm going to school for marine bioloigy so hopefully someday I can make money from my love, whether it be working at a nice LFS or working for seaworld... Either way for me it being happy is they key to life. And I found fish are my happiness, I setup my larges tank right in front of the couch and I sit down and watch the fish channel everyday it keeps me sane.

I bought my 240 gallon tank three years ago, I bought some F2 dovis from Fish farm 2 years ago. I buy bulk massivore from JohnPTC, and I by bulk prime from Ken's fish.

I do not throw money at the hobby, I enjoy the hobby, there is no need to break yourself to be happy.

And do not get me wrong there are a few serious fishkeepers here, look at Li, he has had his same fish, for years, and he continues to buy, very nice fish.

But look back at three years ago, are those same folks still here? If so they are real fishkeepers, these "flash in the pan" keepers here this month gone in three months are not real hobbiests. They have a short term infatuation they are looking embellish on.

Keep an eye out on the sell threads here, some of the nicest fish on the boards are sold here, after the infatuation is over. Then it is time for the next hobby......

Dont know about serious,I try to keep them healthy.Suppose I take that part seriously.I keep alot of fish, but its all fun time for me.If someone posts about something I happen to know something about,Ill offer some advice. But I never worry about whether they do it my way or not.Not my fish.
I buy fish that I like and think look good.I dont worry much about Fo F1 Fu...whatever.Alot of my fish are what most would consider too common,or not way cool I suppose. But they are what I want so I dont much care.Been at the fishkeeping for 30+ years so it must make me happy.Ill keep doing it till I cant anymore.I enjoy the forums but I kept fish before the internet and would still do so if there wasnt any forums to post about it on.

Many people are not taking the hobby too seriously, they take themselves to seriously.

Even though you appear to be a Glock owner I will have to agree with that statement.:) :banhim: For the Glock.:)

I have many hobbies and pick them up and put them down in acordance with my curent intrest. Fish on the otherhand have been a life long fasination. I have had them whenever possabel for the last 35yrs. Started with guppys at age 5. Not saying it in a "I am superior kind of way". I know a fare bit about the way I keep the paticilar fish I have. That dose not even scratch the surface of the knowledge many other have.

Arrogance on any subject tends to rub me the wrong way. Maybe because I am just seeing my undesirable qualities reflected back at me? I don't know?
I have alwase thought that everone I come acros knows something I don't and that I can learn something from them. I have learned a lot, i would not otherwise know, with this out look. I wish I had had the experience of the people on this site, years ago, when i built a 600g tank. Would have saved me a lot of time and money and I might still have it instead of spending years considering the lessons learned and wishing to build another one.

Whats wrong with Glock? lol

I take the hobby seriously enough to ensure that my animals are provided the best care that I can provide them with. Which I dont really think is being to serious, I actually lol at the people who QQ about WC's and cleaning out their filters more than 2x a year. Thats a huge part of the hobby I enjoy, dunno why but i do. Its therapy without talking to a shrink who pretends to understand me when I know they are really thinking "2 more hrs till im off".

I think that is a good outlook on it and probably sums up most people.

I find the name LD50 interesting..... But this is probably not the site to talk about it. Could be lethal for half of us.

wow somone got it :headbang2

They make me happy, plus I can control what I do to them. That's about serious as it gets for me.

No Doubt! One of my tanks is near my TV and I find myself watching my fish as well! Funny how things are. I also enjoy the amazement of people visiting my house for the first time seeing the large tanks.
