Ive noticed on this website there is alot about the Jardini Arowana.

Why are we so unfair to this animal?

And im not talking about us branding it with a repution unfitting of its nature.

I read a post that made me sick last night, some guy on here tried to keep eight together and lost all of them, and then tried again???

Would he have tried this with Male Doviis?

Why are we killing this animal so much?

Its clear that a Jardinis aggression stems from territorial behavior, so why encourage it?

Why would you put such a beautiful animal under that amount of stress?

I wouldnt even consider putting tankmates with a mature Jardini unless the footprint was at least 8x4 and they were bottom dwellers.

I know it would be great to see your Jar swimming peacefully with other Fish, but think of the damn Fish first!

Looks like we found a swimming Pitbull:popcorn:

I have my 18" jardini with 2x 17" silvers, a 8" peacock bass, and 2x 8" thinbar datnoids and he has never once bit or nipped them.

Im not ruling out them living with other Fish ive seen it done.

Can i ask what size your tank is and what colour the background is.

Thanks

its a 215g and its a walk around so theres no background

Cool, I just wanted to have my say because ive seen some real unfair stuff being done to these Fish on this site.

Im not slating everyone who owns one, espesially not people who have kept them with other Fish.

Yes, a lot of the info on this site is biased towards the jardini being aggressive. Yes they can be, but they are just as aggresive as any other Asian arowana. I think the reasoning you guys class them as aggresive species is due to the fact that a lot of USA people don't have access to Asian arowanas as they are a prohibited import into the USA.

In Australia they are prohibited as well, but due to our location to SE ASIA are more readily available. In fact the end of last season, till now Asian arowanas are more readily available than our own jardini. (Work that out !). The normally more difficult to get leichardti, can be found pretty readily at good LFS, at very profit orientated price.

If your going to class arowanas on aggressian, from least most to least.

1. Asian and jardini
2. Leichardti, silver, black
3. African

Im from the UK.

Its only that many people dont treat it like an Asian arowana.

They treat it like a bumper fish.

I have an odd theory....

Most of the tanks ive seen them work in have a dark background, Jardinis also develop more colour in dark background tanks, theres got to be some relation here.

I think possibally that light tanks pis* them off???

I also think that this also applies to males, as this would explain why some are fine with it.

I posted my jar for sale after 5 months. Not cause of aggression but because it grows too fast and is so greedy. It grew from 6 -11 inch in 5 months. Even Eats food of the tank floor.algea wafers as well..Tank is 150g.
It's getting really pink with dark edges to the scales and nice shine. I cant bring my
Self to sell it anymore ad it's one of my best looking fish. So gonna Grow it a bit more.. Risky as I know it can turn into a killer any time

Aren't mostly all fish like this? The darker the background, the more pronounced the colour becomes. Its a natural thing, not really a theory. As for your original question on why theres always people trying jar coms, take a look at the threads again. They ask, people say no, and they don't bother with it until someone gives them the answer they want. Then they go ahead and do it anyways...

Biased? Their aggression is not based on hearsay or opinion. It is based on evidence and fact. I do not see why those who have experience with jardinis and even saw their very true nature are biased, merely stating the truth. Your opinion about their reasoning because they could not get Asian aros themselves, does not justify why they class the jardini as aggressive.
