*sigh* The wealthy are trained not to discuss their wealth. You're not going to find many of them who will post in a thread like this. Discussing money is considered a taboo among the jet set.

The answer is, yes. Many people here are filthy rich and could buy us all a 1000 gallon tank without noticing. But they aren't going to do it because it's not tasteful. Wealth is as much a curse as a blessing. It is best kept silent. People might start treating them like a genie and begging for things and that's just sad for both people because there could have been a normal relationship if money hadn't been brought up.

Wow, I can't agree with that statement more knifegill. I also will ad that their is a difference between rich, and being wealthy and successfull. I believe this site is full of succesfull people. Successfull people are not wealty because they bloat and throw money around. Being wealthy usually comes in hand with being successfull, and being successfull usually comes in hand with being responsible.

Craigslist and saving up

 spot on. I got my 180g with corner overflowes, stand, a large hob filter , lots of air stuff, and 2 c350 for $350 on CL i had to drive 3hr to get it but well worth it just be patient and the deals will come.

ive never had a job, my dad is unemployed, and my mom doesnt make 6 figures but i just got a 110 acrylic tank with overflow, canister filter thats 500 gph and stand :)

for filtration i use chinese knockoffs, they are just as good as the other brands, sometimes worse/better. 500 gph canister, SUPER quiet, great filtration, 60 dollars new. compare that with fx5 with about twice as much published flow for 230 online. you save 170 bucks.

i got the tank for 200, versus thousands new. pool filter sand was 20 bucks versus 100+ bucks at petco for the fancy eco-complete or argonite sand.

total ive spent thousands on fish and plants but its over the years and i figure its less than i was spending two years ago on pokemon cards (200 a week -__-)

i am able buy ALL my things using allowance i get, which is 40 bucks a week, because i look out for deals and i know where to skimp (buy strong, chinese filters/used tanks) and where to spend (healthy livestock, heaters)

also, i flip on craigslist once in a while after im done/get bored with certain setups

also, being friends with owner of LFS helps :)
